The Gap List

About the list.

The Gap List is a weekday newsletter that publishes one researched market gap per day for solo developers and indie hackers.

The Gap Test

Every gap must pass all six checks before it ships:

  1. The pain is documented (linkable evidence — Reddit, G2, forums, tweets).
  2. The demand has a number (search volume, subreddit size, traffic, stars).
  3. It's buildable solo in 2–6 weeks.
  4. The wedge is real (not "cheaper version of X").
  5. There's a path to first dollar.
  6. The gap isn't already filled.

Production model

Issues are AI-drafted, human-edited, evidence-required. Every claim links to a source. Every rate cell is real data, dated. We own the AI disclosure on the about page — we don't hide it.

If we can't honestly write a "Reasons this might not work" section with two or three real risks, the research isn't deep enough. That section ships in every issue.

The build kit

Every issue ships with a sibling build kit: PRD, design spec, tech spec, ten ordered Claude Code prompts, a real starter dataset, and brand-aligned assets. Drop the folder into your repo and start at PROMPTS.md §1.

The kit has five rules: no fabricated data, no surprise dependencies, composable with itself, brand-aligned visuals, and — for Weekend-tier issues — ships in roughly three days.
